I decided to choose the book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I decided to illustrate a Crime novel (top), Scifi remake (middle), and a Spy/Comedy (bottom). I tried to work on using more cell shading because it is one of my weak points so I tried to push it as much as I could. I used the pen tool and the shape to make most of the parts of the illustrations. Then I used the blob brush and pen tool to draw inside the objects to create the highlights and shadows.
I had some trouble drawing some of the shadows and trying to figure out how the shadows would fall on the objects. I used the mesh tool to to create the table detail on the crime cover and the sheet on the spy/comedy cover.

really diggin the last one. looks like he had a rough night.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I like the second cover. The concept of Deep Thought has always been cool. However, I would have taken the box around the title because the text and BG are complementary colors and would look much better together.
ReplyDeleteSecond one is my favorite! Perspective, shadowing looks great!
ReplyDeleteNice works! I think the middle one is the coolest nice colors composition and design! The last one has a nice complimentary color design with the eyes and the bed. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI really like your scifi remake. It looks really well done and makes me want to watch the movie again! I like the pose for the robot in bed. Awesome. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas for the covers. And the detail with the trees in the second image is really cool. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the second one the best. I thought you did a great job on the trees. But I love all of them, so good job!
ReplyDeleteLoved this book and this movie, great imagery and references to the original story..all three covers look good, I guess my favorite would be the third one.. great work..!
ReplyDeleteThe SiFi cover is awesome. I really like how well the shading was done on the figure. However, I think it is almost on the edge of a children's style SiFi.
ReplyDeleteI like the third one, because it looks like he's posing. But the second one has great detail in the shadowing and the trees.
ReplyDeleteThese are great you did a really good job on all of them, the details are nice and they look well organized. The colors are nice too and I think the mesh tool worked out nicely.
ReplyDeleteI never read the book but I did see the movie a while back. I really like the robot illustration.
ReplyDeleteI think the spy comedy cover is such a great idea, very funny! The second one is very well done; the colors you chose for the shadows work so well.
ReplyDeleteI like the last two you did a good job with the shadows.
ReplyDeleteI really like the third one. There's so much detail, especially in the trees, yet there's not so much that it becomes distracting. However, I would use a different highlight design on the 'face,' as the streaks look extremely copy-pasted right now.
ReplyDeleteI love the work put into all three, and feel they are well done, but I still don't get the desk in the first cover, and you even explained it to me. I do prefer your second cover, best of the lot, and the third is really funny , great work over all.
