(The New York Times Magazine, August
2012)

One final illustration. Cannot exceed 7 inches on
any side
Objectives:
Work within the boundaries of a specific
editorial assignment to create an illustration that is appropriate for being
dropped into a layout
Process:
·
Create 18 thumbnail sketches. Pick your two
favorite concepts and discuss them with the class
·
Create two larger, detailed work sketches
exploring composition and other design issues. You can pick one of your two
favorite thumbnails to do two versions of, or you can create sketches of both
of your favorites.
·
Meet with me to briefly to show me your final sketches
and explain how you intend to create this image.
·
Scan in your favorite sketch, or both if you
want to have options.

Work in illustrator to create a detailed,
full-color illustration that exhibits a compromise between fitting the
assignment and embodying your personal style.
