Portfolios
Objectives: Create professional portfolios, both printed and digital. Explore methods of printing physical objects both in the lab, and through print on demand and web to print models.
For Part A of Project 4, you'll be putting together a portfolio of your own work, and then creating two versions: a printed, physical portfolio, and a digital portfolio.
Preparing a Proposal: Before you start making your portfolio, you need to create a proposal.
Please prepare a typed proposal that includes the following:
1. A minimum of a paragraph written about what your goals are. What do you want to do professionally? Be as specific as possible. Do you want to work for a studio, in a collective, or go solo as a freelance illustrator? Do you want to do fine art? What kind of studio would you want to work for? What type of illustration work do you want to do? What kind of publications do you want to be in? Do you want to make comic books? Do you want to make objects to sell online, or at conventions? What?
2. Next, find 5 illustrators that are already doing what you want to do (as absolutely close to your specific goals as possible. List links to their portfolios. Describe any observations you see are noticing in their portfolios with as much detail as possible.
3. Decide the specifics for what you want for your printed portfolio. Describe the case, size, formatting choices, etc. Back up your choices by describing why they fit your chosen goals.
4. Decide the specifics for what you want for your digital portfolio. Decide where you'll put it online, how you'll format it, where you'll link back to it, etc.
5. Select the artwork for your portfolios. More on this in class on Thursday.
