For my choice in the "Best Books Ever" list, I chose Stephen King's novel The Stand.
PLOT: After the world is devastated by a man-made plague, a battle of literally Biblical proportions ensues between the survivors.

Here's a trailer of the TV Mini-Series to get a better idea of it:

My three genre switches are Mystery, Erotica & Western.

WESTERN

For the Western cover, I wanted it to be directed towards men and women in their 30's. I used a wood paneled background that is typical Western novel move. I'm going to edit the text and image in black as if they were branded on the wood. With a Western cover, the customers expectations of the story would be like a final stand at the Alamo.

EROTICA

For the Erotica cover, I wanted the target audience to be women and men in their 30's & 40's. The in between shot of the legs is a classic pose for lots of covers. The focuses would be on the legs, butt and "The Stand." I will be working on the legs because the still don't look proportional. I used hot neon colors to attract everyone's attention; regardless if they are going to pick it up. I wanted it to stand out in a line-up of hundreds of other books.

Mystery

For the Erotica cover, I wanted the target audience to be women and men in their 30's & 40's. The viral outbreak that killed most of the world's population was caused by man. I wanted the cover to feel like a "Who Spilled the Milk?" situation. I think I will make the vial bigger to emphasize it's importance.

Let me know if you guys have any suggestions.

Constructive criticism is always welcome!

  1. I think you should ditch the map of america in the western, and maybe add something that says sickness from the 1800's. The eroctia version works, but may need more detail. And I think your mystery ideas will make it better, but the skull may not be nessicary.

  2. I think all these ideas are great and you designed the covers really well so far, I like the colors you used and the idea gets across. Just maybe you could use a little more details on the legs one, maybe more shadowing on the legs and more small details like that. Otherwise they look great!

  3. I like the Erotica cover. I like how the horizon is lines and then the mountains are jagged, good contrast. I also like the colors in this cover.

  5. Wow I really dig the skull in the background of the last one. That is creepy and amazing! I like the erotica one but maybe cleaned up a bit because I keep looking at the craftsmanship instead of the actual picture. But the idea is solid. Love the background for the western. Excellent job.

  6. Out of the four I think the first and the last are my favorite! The texture you have in both of them is really nice and especially the single light in the last one. Great ideas and great display!
