For this assignment, rather than the chase for the actual monkey itself,
I was drawn towards a comment made regarding how monkeys, like humans,
are social creatures. People were cheering for the monkey, claiming it
to be a representation of freedom, without realizing that this freedom
comes at the cost of the monkey’s mental suffering. From that, I
decided to go with an image of a person isolated from society, with a
sign stating that they were free, all while watching society itself
interacting and having fun, which is similar to what the monkey was going through, isolated from its troop.

ReplyDeleteI particularly like this project due to the use of gradient and shadows. It has the feeling of being alone but also free.
ReplyDeleteI like the neutered sprite look. However, your horizon line is off. It should be closer to the person with the flag than the top of the image.

ReplyDeleteTook me a minute to get with the social aspect of the image and how it related to the article, but I get it now. I like the image, and use of color with the people in the image.

ReplyDeleteI like how you brought the idea about the monkey without the monkey actually being there! Also great attention to the flag and the shadows on it, it really works well!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting style and concept. I like the kind of painted look it has in some areas. One thing I might have done was add a little more variation of shades the water to give it some movement/waves.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and enjoy how different this image is from everyone else. The message is deep and got me thinking. The blue guy is all alone and he's free but free from what? Great concept!
