Monkey Frogger

I started by sketching out my idea as a thumbnail and then made a detailed 8.5x11 of it in my drawing pad. Then I scanned it into the computer. I used mostly the line tool to create the very squared off look. I also used the ellipse tool to create the turtles and the cars and edges of logs.  I used the paint brush to create texture in the grass and on the logs and to paint the monkeys. I used copy and paste a lot since there are several repeated shapes.

The concept of my illustration is the idea that the monkey of Tampa had to cross over ten miles safe and unseen by anyone. The old game of Frogger came to mind. I really liked that idea so I went with it even though I had about 20 ideas. I guess it is just the nerd in me that wouldn't let it go.  Sketching it out and looking at pictures of the original game seemed simple enough and it was simple (although time consuming) with all of the straight lines and ellipses and color fill. Copy and paste. I like how it came out and I enjoyed making it. I think the point would have come out if it had been placed in the article instead of its original illustration. The monkey avoiding traps and cars and difficulties to remain unseen.

  2. Interesting and simple, and it does capture the mood of the article, and the look of the old game at the same time. Not bad, I would like to see more detail, and a little less copy and paste. However less seems to be more in this instance and so it is still a very effective image.

  4. I like how simple it is, especially since it follows the style of the original Frogger games.

  7. My favorite one! The whole combination of the monkey with the frogger idea is dynamic. Great use of simple clean shapes! Fun piece!!
