First off sorry about the quality of these images. These are quick light sketches and are badly scanned. I had to quickly bring pencil strokes back with levels in Photoshop before uploading that's why it looks kind of wonky.
1st cover (Horror): This is like a woods like cove. Might add some mist. There will be a mysterious figure or scary creature with glowing eyes.
2nd cover (Dystopian Sci-Fi): Death Eaters are picking on some random little girl who holds her ground with nothing but her wand. I might take away her teddy bear.
3rd cover (Sports): Quidditch! Its all about catching that snitch with this cover. That's basically it, Harry going after the game winner on this one.

Yeah I really want to see the horror and sci-fi versions of this! Great ideas.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the teddy bear. Maybe at a different angle but it adds emphasis on how young and innocent she is.
ReplyDeleteawesome sketches love these!
ReplyDeletethe 3rd one makes me laugh tho, love it but it has a Alvin and the Chipmunk little face kind of.
I like your dystopian Sci Fi image, i think it's well composed and gives a nice dark feel.
ReplyDeleteInteresting ideas, I like the Dystopian one, but you may want to look up CyberPunk ideas for it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a hard task to take on and I believe that you came up with some pretty cool examples. All the sketches match the genre they are supposed to be representing.
ReplyDeleteI really like the drawing style you implemented in the first sketch. I don't know if this style was just for the sketch itself, but I really enjoy the effect of the cross hatching.
ReplyDeleteI like the second one, but I wouldn't take away the bear, it adds to the innocence of the child. I also like her position. It's like she's mirroring the death eaters moves as if she can counter every act.
ReplyDeleteI really like the first one, since it seems like not a lot of people do images that focus on the background rather than characters. If you can, I would see about finding a way to include the cross-hatching in the final.
ReplyDeleteFor the second one, I would try to add more futuristic/mechanical aspects to it; right now, it looks more like fantasy than sci-fi, mainly due to the armor designs on the Death Eaters looking more like fantasy plate armor. I would keep the teddy bear, though.
I really like the image of the forest ..creepy feeling.. the other ideas are cool but I really like the first sketch ..makes me want to read the book
ReplyDeleteThis is a great different take on the Harry Potter Books. The best one is the best in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThey're all really good ideas and the sketches are really well done I think. I can definitely see these as being book covers and the sci-fi one seems really interesting too. They're clear and you can understand them.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great ideas. I think the trees in the first one turned out very cool; I like the hatching you've done. The sci-fi one I think has the potential to be really epic and I'm excited to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on all three sketches. I agree with Sienna that the cross-hatching on the horror sketch works really well. It's interesting that you decided to go with the pared-down chilly kind of horror, instead of the clashing colors, screaming face type of color. I also like that the sports cover has a totally different type of composition compared to the other two.
