Here’s my Editorial piece (Project #1) for my ART 289 class. The concept was to replace a bland illustration for an article about a monkey loose in Tampa,FL. Since the article was posted from the New York Times I decided to go subtle with my illustration. In the article a woman was quoted about her eye witness account of seeing the monkey at a local church and joking about how he was going to worship there.
From this I decided to go with a stylized illustrator look where there were mainly neon colors but didn't hurt the viewers eyes. I used some visual references for the church and monkey to help with perspective. I’m pretty proud of myself on this piece because I usually don’t utilize space. This time I allowed myself to forgo the urge to fill every empty space on the canvas and free it up a bit.
Lastly, I imported the image into the original article to see how it would look.

ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you could also use this as a poster. The color use also creates a retro feel which I feel draws attention.

ReplyDeleteI like the play on the article, and the addition of the image back into it, it is a much better one that that which came with it originally. I like it, very reminiscent of the fifties style. Clean and sterile, yet highly detailed.

ReplyDeleteThis image screams graphic to me which is not a bad thing at all. The color harmony in this works. The geometrical shapes adds to the image. Very clean and has good perspective.
