In Class Exercise #2: Show What You Know

Today's assignment will be an opportunity for you to show me anything and everything that you already know how to do in Illustrator. You'll have the whole class period to create a self portrait that reveals something (or many things) about you.  You can show elements of your personality, appearance, relationships, hobbies, current mood, etc.. Keep in mind that there are many different approaches to creating a portrait, it doesn't have to be a depiction of what you look like.

My main goal for this exercise is to be able to assess where everyone is at as far as skill level coming into the class. As you work, I'd like you to open a text document and make a list of all the tools and techniques you find yourself using. When you turn in your work, you'll send me the list along with your illustrator file.

If your skills in Illustrator are very limited, that's ok! Just do what you can and play around.

This assignment will be a simple completion grade in order to insure that there isn't pressure on anyone who doesn't have a lot of prior experience. However, if you go above and beyond, and create something impressive, then you'll be receiving extra credit.

Submit your text document and illustrator file to the assignment on Canvas, then export your self portrait as a jpeg and post it to the class blog.
